Men’s Hairdressing Fundamentals Course

Are you looking to launch your career as a barber in Scotland? This 3-day-per-week intensive course is intended for beginners with little or no experience cutting hair. Start with the basics and progress all the way to being ‘shop ready” under the instruction of Lachlan Black, founder of Black’s Male Salons in Edinburgh. Lachlan has trained in Scotland and internationally and has worked with some of the best in the industry. Past students of Lachlan’s have gone from having no experience to being fully booked in a busy barber shop and even progressing to becoming shop managers. So far everyone who has completed the course has gone on to find employment as a barber.

Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am-3:00pm (with 1hr lunch break)

Barber training Scotland Blacks Male Salon

I first started at Black’s Male Salon as a student on Lachlan’s first Fundamentals Course in July 2023. During the 16 weeks on the course, I gained valuable skills in barbering as well as working on the shop floor and consulting with clients. Upon finishing, in November 2023, I managed to secure a permanent job as Stylist, at Black’s Male Salon Polwarth.

With this being my first after qualifying, I was supported fully by my colleagues whilst being mentored by Lachlan. In March 2024, I was promoted to Senior Stylist, a reflection of my hard work, dedication and progression. This was a huge achievement for me having only been in the industry for 4 months. Shortly after, in May, I was selected as a finalist for Best Apprentice Barber at SHABA – another incredible accomplishment after such a short time in the industry. I look forward to my continued progression within Black’s in the future.
